Before you weigh the fee, consider what is actually at stake on a TDIU claim.
A successful TDIU claim pays for this assessment many times over.
Veterans granted Total Disability based on Individual Unemployability are paid at the 100% disability rate for as long as the benefit continues — even when their combined rating is lower. For a veteran with no dependents, that rate is currently more than $3,900 a month, and it increases with a spouse or children.
A $1,599 vocational assessment from Honor Bound Evaluations is less than half of one of those months. For a veteran in their 50s, a successful claim often represents $400,000–$600,000 or more in lifetime, tax-free compensation.
We share these figures so you can decide with a clear picture — not to rush you. Veterans who understand what is at stake tend to submit stronger, better-documented claims. That is what a thorough vocational opinion is for.
Monthly figure reflects the VA 100% compensation rate for a veteran with no dependents, effective December 1, 2025 ($3,938.58). Actual benefits depend on dependents, effective date, and continued eligibility. An evaluation does not guarantee a grant.

Who Qualifies for a TDIU Vocational Evaluation?
A vocational assessment adds the most value when one or more of the following apply to your situation:
- VA rating of 60%+ (single condition) or 70%+ combined. The VA's threshold for TDIU eligibility — but rating alone is rarely enough to win. A vocational opinion documents why you cannot work.
- Unable to maintain substantially gainful employment. If service-connected disabilities prevent you from holding a job that pays above the federal poverty level, you may be a strong TDIU candidate.
- Received a TDIU denial and are appealing. An independent vocational expert report is among the most persuasive supplemental evidence at the Board of Veterans' Appeals (BVA).
- Attorney is preparing a BVA hearing or CAVC filing. Accredited VA attorneys regularly commission independent vocational evaluations to satisfy the evidentiary standard before a hearing.
- Applying for the first time and want strong initial evidence. Submitting a vocational opinion with your original TDIU claim significantly increases the likelihood of an initial grant.
- Working in a marginal or protected work environment. If you work only because of special employer accommodations or a family business, a vocational expert can document why that employment is not substantially gainful.
